Wines for our February 2014 Release
Our 4th vintage of Roussanne has the high tone that white Rhône varieties often achieve in Washington State. The warm 2013 vintage provided exceptional aromatics, starting with lime and then revealing notes of honeysuckle, passionfruit and peach-before deepening into more classic honey and apricot scents with air. Juicy, pure and concentrated, with lovely intensity, the flavors are delicate yet rich, with a clean line of minerality to focus the wine all the way through the vibrant finish.
2011 Block 17 Syrah
Our Block 17 Syrah is distinguished by its deep and dark inky color followed by the rich bouquet of fruit aromas, hints of plum, ripe black cherry and toasty vanilla spices, with layers of cassis, cedar, and cocoa flavors. This Syrah finishes long and toasty with soft, velvety tannins. To complete this delicate wine, the rich fruit was co-fermented with Viognier adding nuances of smoky toffee. Pairs best with peppered red meats, sausage, or other full-flavored meats. This is a young, bold wine, with a supple amount of acidity; if consumed prior to 2015, please decant. Best consumed 2015-2017.
Deep purple and magenta in color, this Malbec opens with the pure varietal aromas of raspberry, cassis, dried herbs and sandalwood. It’s bright and tangy and balanced throughout, with a plush mouthfeel and traces of eucalyptus, blackberry and cedar threaded through the dusty yet polished tannins. A good, bright acid base puts a frame around the complex mix of flavors. It finishes long and yet tight, so give it some breathing time.
2011 “Wild One” Cab Franc
Uniquely expressive of the terroir of our Estate Vineyard, Destiny Ridge, this Cabernet Franc was hand selected and fermented using native wild yeasts. With a deep, dark ruby color, fragrant aromas of currants and rose petal show balance and complexity with a well-integrated, yet subtle oak accent. Elegantly structured on the palate with restrained but richly textured flavors of black cherries, peppercorn and crushed herbs all wrapped in silky oak. The full-bodied palate has a foundation of polished tannins, backed by a long blackberry, cedar and vanilla spice finish. Voluptuous and satisfying, it’s drinking well now but structured to develop over time.
2011 “Sergeant Pepper” Carménère
Our 1st bottling of Carménère is dark violet in color with ripe aromas of blackberries, warm spice, pepper, and then, more pepper. Full-bodied and fruit-forward with intense flavors of black cherry, tobacco, plum and a hint of smoke. The smooth tannins and good structure balance perfectly with the bright flavors and the powerful finish full of crushed herbs, vanilla and cedar. Pairs well with Spicy dishes, like grilled Italian sausages or also a great match with blackened fish, roasted vegetables like eggplant, garlic and peppers or spicy pork tacos.
